The drug belongs to the class of "phosphodiesterase inhibitors" , which also includes sildenafil (Viagra ) and vardenafil (Levitra). The drug is also known as the "Weekend Pill", due to its 36-hour effect. The drug is available in the form of almond-shaped yellow tablets. The tablets are marketed in 10 or 20mg doses. The drug acts by inhibiting or stopping PDE5 enzyme.

A 20 mg dose of Tadalafil can be compared to a 100 mg dose of sildenafil or Viagra.

Dosage: The initial dose should be 10 mg per day, taken before sexual activity. The dose may be increased later to 20 mg, depending on the adequacy of the response or side effects. The effect of the drug lasts upto 36 hours.

Side Effects: The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. In December 2003, the Food and Drug Administration approved tadalafil (as Cialis) for sale in the United States as the third ED prescription drug pill (after sildenafil (Viagra) and vardenafil (Levitra)).

Cialis's 36-hour effectiveness earned it the nickname, "The Weekend Pill"; like sildenafil and vardenafil, tadalafil is recommended as an 'as needed' medication. Cialis is the only one of the three that is also offered as a once-daily medication.

The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug: Headache, Indigestion, Flushing, Back Pain, Stuffy or Running Nose, Muscle Aches
